INFECTIOUS DISEASE Resources
The
use of antimicrobials continues to be an important therapeutic modality, one
that makes up a large portion of total healthcare expenditures, especially
in the hospitalized patient. These therapies decrease the complications of
infections, but carry an inherit risk of toxicities and the risk of
increasing prevalence of multiple drug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Many
strategies have been employed to optimize the use
of these medications, including increasing measures to try to slow the
development of resistant organisms.
