Expanding Immunization Access in Wisconsin

WHERE?
The Medical College of Wisconsin, Medical College of Wisconsin Pharmacy School, the Wisconsin Pharmacy Foundation, and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin will expand patient access to immunizations and support the medical neighborhood by further engaging pharmacists as immunizers.

WHAT?
Immunization access will be expanded by developing a consistent vaccination protocol and training, enhancing the role pharmacists play in the medical neighborhood, and addressing claims policies, consequently leading to sustainable and expanded patient access to recommended vaccines. This investment aims to increase the number of vaccines administered, thus, reducing the prevalence of vaccine preventable diseases in Wisconsin.

WHY?
America’s Health Rankings and Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) data show the state of Wisconsin does not meet vaccination goals in many age and race demographics. The CDC recommends expanding access to vaccines as an evidence-based approach to increasing immunization rates. The partners will support the medical neighborhood by further engaging pharmacists as immunizers, readily accessible to patients, & mobilize communities around pharmacies, widening the vision of the Medical Home model.

WHO?
The Medical College of Wisconsin, Medical College of Wisconsin Pharmacy School, the Wisconsin Pharmacy Foundation, and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin have engaged the following interdisciplinary partners to expand patient access to life-saving vaccines.

This project is funded in part by the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW) at the Medical College of Wisconsin
