PBM Advocacy

Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) play a powerful role in determining how prescription drugs are covered, priced, and reimbursed -- but too often, their practices create barriers to patient care and threaten the sustainability of pharmacies. PSW is committed to advocating for meaningful PBM reform that promotes transparency, accountability, patient access, and fair reimbursement for pharmacies.

See below for tools, data, and advocacy materials to help pharmacists, technicians, and supporters understand PBM issues, share their stories, and take action to protect patients’ access to care.

Ask Your Patients to Support PBM Reform!

When PBMs limit patient choice or force pharmacies to close, patients lose access to their trusted healthcare providers. Ask your patients to share their perspective with their legislators – letting them know that PBM reform is just as critical to patients as it is to pharmacies!

PSW has created a poster that you can display in your pharmacy, as well as smaller handouts that can be distributed in prescription bags. Both include a QR that leads to more information about how PBM reform impacts patients, as well as a draft letter that patients can send to their legislators asking for PBM reform.

Complaints Against Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs)

Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) operating in the State of Wisconsin are subject to numerous regulations. Any pharmacy with a business relationship with any PBM may file a complaint if they encounter a violation of compliance with state law. By filing a justified complaint, pharmacies can ensure that laws – designed to maintain fair and equitable treatment of pharmacies across the state – are being followed appropriately.
