Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Training Programs

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) has two eligibility pathways to sit for the pharmacy technician certification exam (PTCE) to become a Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhT). A technician must complete EITHER to take the PTCE:

  • a PTCB-recognized education/training program (you can find the list of approved programs here)
  • OR attest and record documentation of equivalent work experience, specifically a minimum of 500 hours in the PTCB-required knowledge areas.

Aztec provides an online Pharmacy Technician Training Program that prepares technicians to complete the pharmacy technician certifications exams, including PTCB’s PTCE and NHA’s ExCPT. This self-paced program covers technician duties, basic aseptic technique, calculations, drug classes and uses, and much more. Technicians statewide can register for the program directly through Aztec's website and select Wisconsin as their state.

Once certified with PTCB, technicians are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of CE during the two-year recertification period to renew their certification.

Wisconsin state statute requires pharmacy technicians to be registered but does not require pharmacy technicians to be certified.
