A Tech-Check-Tech (TCT) practice model is transforming healthcare by delivering better access to clinical care. This model leverages abilities and resources in a smarter way while ensuring patient safety and high operating standards. A TCT practice model, also known as a technician product verification practice model, focuses on improving patient care by expanding the provision of clinical services by pharmacists through the utilization of pharmacy technicians. When pharmacy technicians carry out distributive roles not requiring a pharmacist’s clinical judgment, pharmacists are able to reinvest time in direct patient care. This new practice model is evolving the healthcare landscape, improving patient access to quality and efficient care, and advancing pharmacy practice.
This toolkit, whose development was coordinated through the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW), is intended to assist pharmacies in all practice settings with the implementation of technician product verification practice models. The toolkit is designed to provide the tools and training for implementing a successful TCT program according to the requirements of the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board (PEB). The toolkit provides guidance for acquiring approval from the PEB to participate in either the institutional (inpatient and LTC pharmacies) pilot program or the community (non-LTC community pharmacies) pilot program. Templates in the toolkit include customizable language for easy adaptation to site-specific needs. Read the hyperlinked materials from the PEB to see if your pharmacy qualifies for the pilot programs. With the use of this toolkit, the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin aims to expand the number of pharmacies optimizing patient care through technician product verification practice models.
