David Schiek
Hi, I’m David Schiek, owner and managing pharmacist at Rhinelander Hometown Pharmacy. I’ve been practicing in Wisconsin since 1995, after earning my pharmacy degree from Ferris State University. In 2024, I obtained Wisconsin Provider Status, expanding our appointment-based care model.
I currently serve as Region C Director on the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin’s Board of Directors and on the membership committee, where I advocate for rural and independent pharmacies. I’m honored to have received PSW’s Innovation Award for my work on cumulative medication reviews (CMRs). I hold WPQC accreditation and have participated in several PSW programs, including Flip the Pharmacy, Heart Health Triad, Fentanyl Test Strip, and Homebound Vaccinations. My roots in healthcare run deep—my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all practiced medicine in Rhinelander. In 2018, I merged Stoxen Pharmacy with another local pharmacy to create Rhinelander Hometown Pharmacy. Outside of work, I enjoy volunteering with youth sports and spending time with my wife, Alison, and our four kids.
Statement of Purpose
I am seeking reelection to the PSW Board of Directors to continue advocating for independent and rural pharmacy voices across Wisconsin. Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Region C Director, helping shape discussions around pharmacy practice advancement, reimbursement reform, and the need for provider status. As the owner of a busy independent pharmacy in northern Wisconsin, I understand firsthand the challenges that come with running a high-touch, community-centered practice in today’s healthcare environment—from DIR fees and PBM pressures to patient access and education.
I believe pharmacists should be empowered to practice at the top of their license and be recognized as essential healthcare providers. My goal is to help PSW further its mission by ensuring legislation and policy reflect the realities our members face on the ground. I’m especially interested in continuing work around practice transformation, expanding clinical services in community settings, and championing pharmacist involvement in preventative and cognitive health.
PSW has always been a strong advocate for our profession. I want to help carry that momentum forward—representing the needs of pharmacists across settings, especially those in small towns and underserved areas like mine.
