Purpose
The PSW Technician Section Board exists to strengthen and elevate the role of pharmacy technicians across the profession. By advancing technician education and aligning with PSW’s strategic goals, the board works to create more opportunities for meaningful collaboration between technicians and other pharmacy professionals.
The section helps foster positive, interprofessional relationships and supports innovative practice models that expand the technician’s role in patient care. In addition to providing guidance to the PSW Board of Directors on the evolving needs of the technician workforce, the Technician Section serves as a voice for technicians—advocating for representation, sharing emerging practice trends, and promoting excellence in technical practice.
With support from PSW staff, the section stays actively engaged in legislative and regulatory developments that shape technician practice in Wisconsin and beyond.
Target
The PSW Technician Section Board is designed for pharmacy technician professionals who are working, supporting, and leading pharmacy practice across Wisconsin.
This includes individuals in all stages of their careers and from all areas of practice—whether in community settings, hospitals, long-term care facilities, specialty pharmacies, or emerging practice models.
The section aims to connect technicians who are committed to advancing their roles, contributing to innovative care delivery, and shaping the future of the profession. It also welcomes those interested in education, leadership, interprofessional collaboration, and staying engaged with regulatory and legislative developments that impact technician practice.
Structure
The PSW Technician Section Board is led by a team of professionals committed to representing and advancing the technician workforce across Wisconsin. Leadership rotates annually through a President-Elect, President, and Past-President model, with a Secretary serving alongside them each year. To ensure statewide representation, one technician from each of PSW’s six regions also serves on the board for a two-year term. In addition, the section includes a liaison from the PSW Board of Directors who serves a one-year term, as well as a PSW staff member who provides consistent support and continuity.
Pharmacy technicians who are passionate about contributing to the advancement of the profession are encouraged to apply during the nomination period (April-June). Terms run from September through August to align with the PSW Annual Meeting.
Meetings
The Technician Section Board meets quarterly during the term year to discuss ongoing initiatives, share updates, and plan future efforts to support pharmacy technicians throughout Wisconsin. Meetings are typically held at the PSW headquarters in Madison, with virtual attendance options available to ensure all members can participate regardless of location. To further strengthen engagement and professional growth, active participation and attendance at PSW Conferences is strongly encouraged and requested. This commitment helps foster deeper connections and keeps members aligned with the latest developments in pharmacy practice.
