Statewide Standing Orders for 2026–2027 COVID-19 & Influenza Vaccines

A court injunction in AAP v. Kennedy currently bars ACIP from meeting or issuing new recommendations, after the court found its current membership was improperly appointed. As long as that injunction stands, CDC cannot lawfully revise its immunization schedules — the court held any changes must be informed by ACIP, which is currently unable to act.

Because pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and student pharmacist vaccine authority in Wisconsin is tied to the CDC/ACIP schedules and those schedules currently list 2024-2025 formulations of the COVID-19 and influenza vaccines, pharmacy professionals cannot order and administer these vaccines without a standing order, prescription order, or vaccine protocol in place.

PSW has worked closely with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) on a statewide standing order for both influenza and COVID-19 vaccines for the 2026-2027 season.

These standing orders were created in alignment with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
