She serves as Residency Program Coordinator for the UW Health HSPAL program and remains engaged with the UW School of Pharmacy as a course coordinator, curriculum committee member, and preceptor. She contributes to PSW through advising the Pharmacy Advancement Leadership Team, serving on Wisconsin Pharmacy Workforce Commission, and supporting the development of Student Leadership programming.

Statement of Purpose
The summer before my P1 year, I attended my first PSW Annual Meeting with a handful of my future classmates. A Kalahari weekend simply sounded like a fun way to get to know one another.

I quickly realized there was much I did not yet understand about pharmacy. There were “Toolkits” that looked more like pamphlets than toolboxes, and excitement around acronyms like WPRC. What I did understand was the energy of the community: deeply engaged, passionate about patient care, and committed to advancing the pharmacist role. I left with a clear sense that Wisconsin pharmacy was special and that I was entering a profession defined by collaboration, purpose, and opportunity.

I am seeking election to foster that same connection and engagement across Wisconsin. I bring a systems-focused perspective grounded in experience in health-system operations, ambulatory care, and leadership development. Pharmacy is increasingly complex and demanding, yet the opportunity to impact patients across the care continuum continues to grow. The power of pharmacy to improve the health of Wisconsinites depends on strong training environments, an engaged workforce, and thoughtful, strategic leadership. I would be honored to support PSW’s work to strengthen our profession and carry forward the connection and purpose that define Wisconsin pharmacy.

Matt McGowan

Matt is a 2010 graduate from the University of Wisconsin - Madison Doctor of Pharmacy program. He currently serves as a Director At-Large on the PSW Board of Directors, he was an active member of PSW while in pharmacy school, a participant of the 2011 PSW Leadership Conference, and has continued active PSW and WPQC membership throughout his 16 years of licensed practice.

Matt currently resides in Mount Horeb, WI with his wife Kayla (UW PharmD, 2012) and three boys. He is a current member of CPESN, NCPA, and is active in community organizations including the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and volunteer coaching numerous recreational programs. Matt fulfilled his career dream of owning a pharmacy when he took over ownership of the independently owned Mount Horeb Pharmacy in 2021 (now Mount Horeb Family Pharmacy), where he hopes to contribute to the further advancement of pharmacy practice both locally and nationwide.

Statement of Purpose
I am seeking re-election to the PSW Board of Directors to continue representing the critical perspective of an actively practicing, independent community pharmacist and continue advocating for community pharmacies and community pharmacists across the state.

During my first term, I aimed to provide an engaged, practical voice on key issues including industry reform, development of Standard of Care framework, payment for pharmacist-provided services, and the long-term viability of community pharmacy. It is a critical time for pharmacy in Wisconsin, and it is imperative to ensure these discussions remain grounded in the realities faced by independent pharmacists.

I am proud to have presented real life examples and testified on behalf of my pharmacy and PSW to the Wisconsin Assembly Committee on Health, Aging and Long-Term Care in favor of reform during my term. I intend to lean on this experience and continue to advocate for the changes necessary for Wisconsin pharmacy to thrive.

During my career, I have experience as an inpatient Director of Pharmacy and an independent pharmacy owner, and I take pride in using these experiences to maintain an open mind and voice for ALL PSW members as a member of the Board of Directors.
