Drea Maier

After earning my Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Wisconsin- Madison School of Pharmacy in 2007, I completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at UnityPoint Health- Meriter Hospital. I stayed at Meriter as an acute care clinical pharmacist with a focus on general medicine and emergency medicine for the next 9 years and developed a passion for transitions of care.

In 2017, I joined SSM Health as a Primary Care Clinical Pharmacist where I was able to practice at the top of my license using collaborative practice agreements to optimize patient’s medication therapy and chronic disease outcomes. I am currently the Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy at SSM Health for the Wisconsin Region. This role has provided me the opportunity to help optimize and expand our ambulatory pharmacy services as well as demonstrate the clinical and financial benefits of these services.

Statement of Purpose
I am seeking re-election to the PSW Board of Directors to continue advocating for the advancement, sustainability, and excellence of pharmacy practice in Wisconsin. Over the past term, I have been honored to contribute to initiatives that enhance patient care and support advanced pharmacy practice.

Strengthening and developing our pharmacy workforce is a key ongoing initiative. Investing in our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians by reducing burnout and improving wellbeing is essential. We need to expand our future pipeline by marketing our profession, recruiting new talent, and breaking down barriers for those interested in entering the field. Advocating for fair reimbursement for community pharmacy services is crucial to ensure patients have access to pharmacists and medications. Building on the momentum from the landmark passing of Wisconsin Pharmacist Provider Status, we must continue to advocate for Provider Status for all payers. We need to collaborate to demonstrate the profound impact pharmacists have on improving population health, enhancing care quality, and reducing healthcare costs.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to the membership for the opportunity to serve on the board over the past term. I am eager to continue working towards these goals and contribute to PSW’s vision of transforming pharmacy practice to enhance the health of Wisconsinites.

Statement of Purpose
What inspired me to run for the PSW Board was the inspiration I felt while attending a PSW Board meeting several months ago. It opened my eyes to the broad range of challenges the pharmacy profession faces and left me wanting to be part of the solution.

I bring a unique perspective shaped by decades of working in homecare and global health. Additionally, I’ve been actively involved in PSW as a member of The Journal Editorial Advisory Committee, a conference presenter, a WPQC collaborator, and a recipient of the 2022 Excellence in Innovation Award.

My advocacy priorities lie in empowering pharmacists to prevent and manage chronic disease through patient education and medication management. I recognize that others are focused on work-force shortages, burnout, or reimbursement rates. Attending the PSW board meeting showed me that I want to be a voice for all and be engaged in additional priority areas for the profession. Being part of the board will allow me to work towards shared goals of advancing pharmacy practice.

I am eager to bring my expertise in patient care and innovative program development to the PSW Board and look forward to collaborating with members to advance advocacy initiatives.
